Template for educational use — not legal advice. Consult a licensed attorney in your state. This is a template for educational purposes only. It is not legal advice, it does not create an attorney-client relationship, and it has not been reviewed against the facts of your case. Parenting law varies by state and changes over time. Consult a licensed attorney in your state before signing or filing any agreement about your children.

Connecting Nests is not a law firm

We don't provide legal advice or legal representation, and using this site doesn't create an attorney-client relationship. Nothing you send us is protected by attorney-client privilege.

Our templates are general forms

Every template here is a general educational form. We don't draft documents for your situation and we don't tell you which options to choose — you make every selection yourself, and we assemble the form around it. That line matters: choosing legal language on your behalf would be practising law without a licence, and you deserve an actual lawyer for that.

Laws change, and they change by state

Custody law is state law, and it moves. A template that was right last year may not be right today, and a template that's right in one state can be wrong across the line. Confirm current requirements with a licensed attorney in your state before you sign or file anything.

A draft is not an order

In most states an agreement about children becomes enforceable only when a judge signs it. Signing our template doesn't make it a court order.

If safety is a factor

If there's any history of abuse, neglect, substance misuse, or domestic violence in your situation, please talk to a licensed attorney rather than filling in a form. Those circumstances are exactly the ones a template cannot responsibly address.
