What Louisiana expects
Louisiana is a civil-law state with its own vocabulary: joint custody orders designate a 'domiciliary parent' with whom the child primarily resides, and an implementation plan allocates physical custody. Do not use common-law custody phrasing here.

The honest trade-off
No long gap between seeing either parent, which is why it's the most common 50/50 schedule for little kids. The cost is exchanges — six a fortnight, roughly double most other schedules — so it only works when handoffs are calm and the drive is short.
