What Minnesota expects
Minnesota's parenting-plan statute lets parents use their own terminology instead of 'custody' labels, provided the plan sets a schedule, decision-making, and a dispute-resolution method.

The honest trade-off
No long gap between seeing either parent, which is why it's the most common 50/50 schedule for little kids. The cost is exchanges — six a fortnight, roughly double most other schedules — so it only works when handoffs are calm and the drive is short.
