2-2-3 in New York

Two nights with one parent, two with the other, then a three-night weekend that alternates. Over two weeks it comes out even. In New York this is written into a Parenting Plan, where time with a child is called visitation.

What New York expects

New York has no statutory custody presumption and no mandatory plan form — courts decide on best interests, which makes a clear, agreed written plan disproportionately persuasive.

Governing law: N.Y. Dom. Rel. Law § 240.

The honest trade-off

No long gap between seeing either parent, which is why it's the most common 50/50 schedule for little kids. The cost is exchanges — six a fortnight, roughly double most other schedules — so it only works when handoffs are calm and the drive is short.
